China, Porcelain, Stoneware, Ceramics and Glass can be repaired and restored. Ceramic restoration has a long history and today, with the help of modern materials, decorative ceramics can be restored and repaired. Conservators today place much emphasis on honest and sympathetic restoration, rather than “over-restoration” which often happened in the past. Thus, today the conservator will stabilise and conserve an object in order to prevent further deterioration. We can help you to decide what is required to restore your “piece”. Please see Enquiries.
Ceramics play such an important part in our lives and history. Many pieces are passed down through generations becoming Family heirlooms of great sentimental and financial value. Restoration and Conservation of these pieces protects our past, can increase their value and give much enjoyment to their owners.
We suggest after restoration, the piece be re-valued for insurance purposes. (You might be surprised).
Restoration and Conservation is as much an investment in the past as it is in the future.
Breakages (What to do) If the worst happens, carefully collect every fragment. The pieces of a dropped object may be widely scattered. Wrap the larger pieces individually in layers of tissue, and place the fragments in envelopes. Do not attempt to fit pieces together yourself, or tape fragments together or on to paper - though you may place tape across running cracks to prevent them from lengthening.
Put the packages and envelopes into a strong box with plenty of packing material, Ceramic and glass do not normally deteriorate while awaiting repair, provided you have collected, wrapped, and protected the pieces.
Restoration and Conservation is as much an in investment in the past as it is in the future.
